 Thief ::Open::

A girl dashed through the cobblestone streets, her feet nearly silent on the ground. A black cloak billowed out behind her, effectively shielding her face. Her breath was beginning to become ragged as she ran through the maze-like streets of Omashu. The girl clutched a loaf of bread to her chest and an apple in her mouth. Angry shouts rang out behind her and she could hear a few men in pursuit.

"All this for a loaf of bread and an apple?" She thought, bemused. Then she leapt up to grab the railing of a window, her legs swinging below her. The bread still gripped in one hand, she swung herself up and began to craw toward the roof, spider like. Once there, the girl began to sprint again, leaping from roof to roof as natural as if she were merely walking. With a breath of relief, the thief came to the gates of Omashu. She jumped to the ground, running straight at the guards.

One of them shouted something at her, but she only gave a crooked grin. She deftly dodged the rocks they bended at her, only one clipping her shoulder. Then she delivered a kick to the jaw of one guard, whirling around to uppercut the other. With a musical laugh, she slipped through the gates.

The girl, Tekidan, sprinted as fast as she could into the mountains, wishing she could bend earth or air to make this go faster. At last, she was far enough away from Omashu that she could slow down. Tekidan laughed again, grateful but not surprised that she had got away. She ran a hand through her long silt colored hair. Tossing the apple into the air once, Tekidan turned a corner in the mountain path.

And crashed right into someone, almost throwing both of them off the mountain.

"Oh!" Tekidan shouted in surprise, just barely saving her apple from rolling of the edge. Without turning to see her victim, she began to apologize, "Sorry, sorry! I'm really clumsy somtimes..."

Umi solemny sauntered up the mountain. She clutched a few flowers in her hand, and a crumpled piece of paper in the other. She set her jaw, and her lips formed into a straight, hard line. Umi knew this place so well. She remembered as a kid when she would play here with her pet dog and her parents. Then they left, both of them. Umi had been alone, but it didn't phase her much. Being alone could be fun, she could anything she wanted to do, with any consequences. She had left Ba Sing Se, it was just so boring there. Umi avoided a few rocks that were in her path, not borthing to bend. The vague sound of shouting gate soldiers, and some people from the city made Umi a bit curious.

She wondered what was up. Umi gave a rather sly smile. She enjoyed it when people got in trouble. For some reason, it just amused her. Umi remembered the flowers, and rushed over to a pile of gray and green rocks. She placed the flowers with all the rest, and said the few words on the paper in respect, then placed that in a pile of papers she left. Umi knew it wasn't littering, she did care for the planet, and when the time came, she would actually try and help out rather than just sit there and take credit for what other people did. But, whatever. Umi hopped behind a bush so she could see, but decided it wasn't worth it. Why waste your time? She stood up, and began to walk towards the city. The usual hustle and bustle.

Umi had heard rumors there were trains and mail moved by Earthbending. Was it possbile to get one of those people to teach her that? Maybe. They seemed so busy during the day. Umi put a hand on her stomach and it growled, rather impatient. She rummaged around in her backpack, looking for some Earth Kingdom money, but found none. There was some from the Fire Nation, and Umi wondered if it would work here. Umi brushed a strawberry blonde strand of hair out of her face, not looking up. She was a little apprensive about Fire Nation. Ever since they attacked the other nations, they had caused nothing but death, and poverty. Umi hated them with a passion. She wondered why someone could just turn on you like that. How was it possible to just betray your friends and forget them?

Umi's straight face turned into a frown. Fire Nation killed her parents. That's why she hated them. So, in the end, she ended up telling herself that if she ever met someone from the Fire Nation, if they ever crosed her path, she would fight, fight, fight. Umi was so lost in her thoughts, she forgot where she was going. At least at a good point, she strayed onto a path. Umi finally looked up as she broke into a jog, crashing into somebody. Umi stumbled backwards, then fell sprawled on the floor. She sprung right up, and evil look accented her eyes. Her teeth began to grind, and she just wanted to punch something. "Watch where you're going next time. We're not all stupid." Umi knew it was partly her fault, but whatever!

She saw the bread and apple, remebering the chaos caused by the people in Omashu and the guards. Only then did Umi crack a wry smile. Smart kid. She thought, rather impressed. She didn't expect the person to be nice back to her, what after she screamed and everything. But, it would be pretty cool to hear the story how she managed to get that bread and apple, and how she did it. Umi wanted to give it a try sometime. with boredom just revolving around your life, a few good points with some fun never hurt anybody.

Umi knew the soldier guard men would probably come looking up here, after Tekidan gave them a major whooping. It was best to get out of there, but Umi hoped they would come so she could see if Tekidan would show Umi her bending, if she had any, that is. If she didn't, Umi contemplated, could she get a reward? If they were giving it out. If not, a few quick fighting moves wouldn't hurt anything. Give 'em a left! Give 'em a right! Badda Bing, Badda Boom.

"Watch where you're going next time. We're not all stupid." came a hiss from the body Tekidan had crashed into. She twitched slightly, jerking her head up. She was about to snarl some smart alec reply when she saw the wry smirk on the girls face. Unsure if the girl was just joking with her, Tekidan stayed silent, swiping up the bread and apple. She murmured another apology, then turned her back to the girl. She didn't have time for games, unfortunately. Tekidan was about to leave when she paused. Perhaps the girl could prove usefull to her. She might have some information about the Avatar...

"Plug your ears," she instructed, a little cooly, then stuck a small silver whistle in her mouth. Taking a deep breath, she blew has hard as she could, the sharp note ringing through the mountains. The whistle fell from her mouth to swing gently from her neck. Tekidan turned to face the girl again, looking her up and down. They were very close to the same height, a bandana creating the ilusion that the other girl was taller. Her eyes were kind of odd, slightly slanted, but it didn't look strange on her. She was dressed simply, a green vest over a comfertable looking tank top.

"My name's Tekidan," she introduced herself, finally cracking a kind smile, "And you are...Oh! Hold that thought," Tekidan said, turning her head towards a rocky cliff. She could hear rocks falling, then suddenly, the sun was blocked by a shadow.

A moment later, the shadow landed, revealing that it was only Rasha, Tekidan's dear friend. Who also happend to not be human. Rasha tossed his large head, his antlers nearly clipping Tekidan. She grabbed on to them and tugged affectionatly as Rasha angrily stamped his petite feet. She rubbed his forehead softly and smiled.

"Yes, I know I took longer than I said I would, but look! I brought you lunch!" Tekidan held up an apple for Rasha to munch on. Satisfied, he turned his doefull eyes to their new visitor. Tekidan ripped the loaf of bread in half and offered it to the girl.

"What's your name then?" she asked, a crooked grin appearing.
