(This is what I get for having tea this late at night, me wanting to roleplay before bedtime. So I'm hoping I can pull something together.)
It had been so long...
The last time she could remember seeing Ba Sing Se had been right before she left, on her little endeavor of sorts. Though as of late, this particular endeavor didn't seem to be going as planned, but it was just a minor bump in the road for our Avatar by the name of Naomi. It wasn't as though it would be enough to make her completely give up...Not that she would be able to in the first place, as the entire world was counting on her. Counting on her for what? To make sure that the words of the previous Avatar's hadn't been all shot to hell but any one person. Her mission was to keep peace throughout the four Nations. Though, so far that was proving rather difficult to do alone.
But was she really alone?
of course she wasn't entirely alone, not when she had the support of the majority of the world. Surely there were not too many people who disagreed with her actions or what she was doing. Granted, Naomi wasn't entirely doing anything at the moment for the fact that the only thing she could do was grow stronger, which would mean eventually finding a bender who could teach her. One bender per element she needed to learn. She'd already mastered Earthbending, which left Air, Fire, and Waterbending. Though she was particularly looking forward to learning about the Firebending, above anything else at least.
But for now, the Avatar needed a break. Avatar's do deserve breaks every once in a while, right? If not well then she'd already failed as the Avatar. But this was the first time that she could return home in several months, and she wanted to make good use of that time. Perhaps after she'd gotten through with here, she would set off once again in search of some masters who could teach her. But until then, Naomi needed a nice long break, and what better to take such a break then in her hometown of Ba Sing Se?
Her vacation however seemed to be starting off on top of the tallest hills located within Ba Sing Se. Okay, so it wasn't so much the tallest hill, but it was the only hill the city had to offer, and she wasn't willing to turn it down. Just sitting atop this hill, watching the rest of the city, it brought back a few memories, and Naomi couldn't help but smile sadly. SO many good members still lingered on this hill, right below the tree that sat perched on top of the hill as well. It had been the same tree she'd attempted to climb up as a younger child and fell off and managed to break her arm. Granted, that was a painful memory in and of itself, it was also one that Naomi remembered simply for the fact that if you got to one of the taller branches on the tree, you would be able to see across part of Ba Sing Se. Before she fell, she could remember the elegant picture her mind had painted of the scene, with the rooftops and smoke emitting from the chimneys.
Looking up at this very tree in which she was just remembering, a thought occurred to Naomi, and she couldn't help but grin like a little kid getting candy. Jumping up from her perch in the grass, Naomi proceeded over to the tree and reached both arms up to grab hold of one of the branches, pulling herself upward once she'd latched onto the branch. From here, she found another branch barely within arms length and clambered on top of it. And over and over she climbed, climbed, and climbed until she was somewhere in the middle of the tree, where she was able to see Ba Sing Se.
Off in the horizon, Naomi couldn't help but noticed the setting sun and it's imagery of soft orange, red, and yellow hues. It seemed to illuminate the entire sky with it's gentle hues of warming colors. Underneath this setting sun, where the usual day to day hustle and bustle of the city remained was row upon row of houses, most in which seemed to have had a fire running as their was smoke emitting from the chimney's upon their rooftops. Surrounding a few houses, and even further off into the distance, Naomi couldn't help but take notice to the luscious green trees.
As a gentle wind blew passed, caressing her cheeks with it's gentle touches, the same fate seemed to have fallen on the trees as they swayed gently in the breeze. Still, Naomi was at a loss for words, being far too stuck on how beautiful the city was so earlier in the summer season.
"I'm finally home," she said softly as another gentle breeze ran it's fingers through her layered blond hair.
"And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming. Or the moment of truth in your lies. When everything feels like the movies. Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive."

Life had finally seemed to settle into a routine for Onjou. Since coming to Ba Sing Se, things had been so much harder than he expected. Finding a job had only been easy because of the fact that he was a waterbender. The tea shop in which he worked was eager to have someone with his abilities on hand. Of course, it was a small store, so he was really happy to have anyone. In fact, Onjou was the only employee. He had been looking for a young, spry worker for a while, and, in his eyes, Onjou fit the bill. The waterbending was just an added bonus. The shop wasn't all that popular, but Onjou was able to keep his apartment and put food on the table. That was all that was important, right?
Then again, under normal circumstances, his apartment wouldn't have been too difficult to afford. It was only a single room, made up of a small countertop, a fireplace for cooking and keeping warm, a table with two chairs, a bed, and an overstuffed bookshelf. There was a shared bathing facility for all of the tenants, which Onjou chose his times very carefully for. It was in one of the worst neighborhoods in Ba Sing Se, and Onjou had found himself at a criminal's mercy on several occasions. Beggars lined the streets around his home. Though Onjou really didn't have much, he always spared what he could to the people on the streets. It was just in his nature to help people, even if he hurt himself in the purpose.
Everything had eventually fallen into place. Onjou would wake up in the morning, usually tie his hair back (it depended on the day), and get ready for the day. He'd strap his harp onto his back (he took it with him nearly everywhere he went), grab his apron, get his water pouch hanging from his side, and set out for the tea shop. He always tread carefully through his neighborhood, lest he disturb any ruffians. He always spared what he had for the beggars on the street, even though he really couldn't afford to. He would often find that, by the time he got to work, his pockets would be empty.
Then Onjou would push open the door to the Mint Koi, hearing the bell ring as he was greeted brightly by old man Toushou. He's pull his apron off of a hook near the door, tie it behind his back, and serve the few customers that the store had. As soon as he had an order, he'd swiftly walk back into the kitchen to prepare the tea and pastries. By Toushou's prompting, he would often prepare the tea in front of the customers, as they enjoyed watching him stir and heat the water without even touching the cups. He got some tips this way, and decided that it was something he could work with, nervousness and all.
Then the day would end. He'd pull off his apron, hang it back up, wave goodbye to Old Man Toushou, and be on his way. He'd faintly hear the bell ringing behind him as he took what little money he had made that day to go grocery shopping. Onjou would try not to focus on the beggars this time around, but still couldn't help occasionally giving to the less fortunate (it was hard to be less fortunate than Onjou, given the circumstances). He would never be able to buy quite as much food as he'd like due to this. It was the only reason that he had to shop for groceries every day, unlike most others.
Ah, but there was one part of his schedule that didn't occur everyday. True, it happened rather often, but not everyday. That simple derivation was the fact that he easily got lost on his way home. Honestly, he had taken the same path a million times since moving to Ba Sing Se, but he still managed to lose his way. The young man was just a bit spacey. He couldn't help it! But there was a simple solution to this problem.
For a large hill, one could see a lot of the city. Onjou's run-down neighborhood was easily spotted from this vantage point, as it was rather close to home. So, Onjou hauled his crate of groceries up the hill. All the way...up the hill...with his crate. Now, physically, Onjou wasn't the strongest individual one might come across. As he finally approached the top of the hill, breathing heavily, he didn't even notice the girl in the tree above him. His eyes were glued to the horizon, the setting sun over the city. There was no hurry, right? After all, the only thing Onjou had left to do that day was eat. He could spare some time and watch the sunset.
With gave a great, exasperated sigh, preparing to set down the crate at the top of the hill. But the release caused him to lose his balance, and he was quickly staggering on his feet. He stumbled forward, the crate being released from his grip. Miraculously, it remained upright in midair, nothing spilling out. That wouldn't last long, but it was long enough. As soon as he had regained his footing, Onjou had sent a stream of water out toward the crate. It wrapped around it, holding it in place. He gulped and, arms trembling, he pulled it back to him, ever so slowly. Once it was within reach, he quickly broke off the bending and wrapped his arms around it, catching it. At that, he gave a small smile of satisfaction. His shirt was a bit wet, but he hadn't actually expected that to work.

Ba Sing Se. Some Earthbenders sought out this place in search of training. Some just wanted to hide, and others wanted a home. Benders from their own Nation should stay in their nation, or at least, that's what Umi thought. She wasn't the least bit fond of people, you could say. She was a Grinch amongst christmas people, you could say. umi walked over the hill, gazing intently at the land below. People scurried around, and she could hear crackling fires, and the hollering merchants, desperately trying to sell their goods. It was a while she Umi had been up here. She traveled from Omashu, saying a few good words to Hofe's grave. Umi found some wildflowers, so she decided to put them there. She remembered her childhood so well. What makes you suffer, it what makes you tougher. Umi lived partly by the motto, and she just didn't know what to do with the rest of your life.
She didn't feel the least bit sorry for herself, and didn't expect anyone else to. The Earthbender sat down in the thick grass. The ruffle of the wind, soothed her soul. The grass looked like a vast ocean, waving effortlessly. Umi thought of music. Oh, how she loved to dance around a bonfire, and laugh and sing along. Well, not anymore. She was a tough, one way mind person. She still loved music, yes, but she never wanted to show anybody that she cared. Umi didn't know why, but she just wanted to be alone her whole life. she knew it was wrong, but she kind of wanted it. The girl looked at her arm, then slipped off the bandage. A pallid white scar shone out between her sun kissed skin. You could tell she had stitches, and a staple or two. Umi lifted her lip in disgust, then continued to focus on the ground. She focused her energy, so she could feel the footsteps in the ground. Feel odd weight in a tree.
Someone was in a tree. Umi rolled her eyes. She didn't care. Instead, she tried to focus even harder. Didn't work, she was thrown off balance. Umi growled, then shot upwards. She paced, rather angry. The Earthbender usually had the quiet, and she didn't want to start screaming at someone. Her mind told her no, but her heart said yes. Umi forced her anger away, and dropped to the ground. She buried her face in her hands, forcing back the tears that came. "Umi, you're so stupid. What would Hofe-sensei say?" Umi's voice was just barely a whisper. Just as she was about to breakdown, a tiny little red bird sat next to her, reassuring her with it's playful voice. Umi looked up, then at the bird, then smiled. She rummaged around in her backpack, and brought out a handful of bird food. The Earthbender opened her palm, allowing the bird to hop on, and start to eat. Umi stroked the head with her finger, then set the bird on the ground, then scattered the food around, hoping more would come.
Two more birds came, only one was gray, and one was blue. Mother Nature's creatures were so harmless, beautiful, and sometimes you just wanted to be free with them. The three birds sang in unison. Umi smiled gratefully. The girl's anger just washed away like a tsunami. Umi cast a gaze down at Ba Sing Se, the Earthbender haven, the safe place for people to practice their bending. A faint breeze blew around echoing words and she stood up to look down at the city. "You don't have to be angry...." Umi's eyes widened, and she searched around for the voice. It oddly resembled.. Hofe. She began to look desperately, her chest tightened with happiness. Maybe Hofe put himself in a temporary death state? Then, when Umi was gone, perhaps he unburied himself to test Umi, and see if she took her words to heart.
Umi furrowed her brow. Impossible. Hofe was dead. D-e-a-d. That's what happened when you get old. I'm crazy.. She thought, and hung her head and she sat down near the birds once again, but this time, their song didn't help. They noticed this, and flew off. That and.... the food was gone because they had eaten it all, but whatever. Umi knew she was wasting her time, and she probably looked like an idiot right now, possibly even a psycho. That or, the person could have heard it, but Umi was spektical. She took off the blue pin that was clipped to her tanktop, and gazed at it sadly. She looked at her reflection, emotionless and mad. Umi balled her hand into a fist, and stuffed it into her backpack. She didn't regret. She didn't care. No one care for Umi, so Umi cared for no one in return.
The Earthbender lashed out for the strap of her backpack, then retreated to the tree. She leaned against the trunk, and slipped out her little black notebook. Umi was once teased about having a diary, but she beat all those kids up not with Earthbending, but with cold hard fists. She would rather consider it as a notebook to write the day's happenings. Umi had hardly used it, she didn't even look at it for a whole year, until today. She took out a ballpoint pen, and scribbled some writing down. Oh, you want to know what she wrote? Fine, but don't tell anyone!
Entry : 7
Dear notbook, Today was normal. I meditated, well, tried anyways. SOMEBODY threw me off balance, but whatever. There's always tomorrow. I'm not ready to accept that... what happened to Hofe. I know it sounds crazt, but I think I heard his voice in the wind telling my not to always be so angry. But, how can I be when everyone I love is taken away from me? You try having your parents killed, then you sensei falling off of a cliff! Bah humbug. There were birds, but they didn't help. Well, I guess I'm done. There's nothing else for me too focus on, so why bother? See you in Entry 8. Not. Stay outta my notebook!
Umi chewed on the end of her pen as she placed the notebook back in her backpack. After a bit of chewing, Umi put the pen away, too. Now, it's time to confront the person in the tree. She bravely stood up, then looked around. Umi stared, emotionless of course, until she noticed Umi. Instead, she got a bit frustrated at the person staring at the city. "Why are you up in that tree? You could fall!" She cupped her hands around her mouth to echo her voice up there. Umi wanted to get higher, but climbing a tree with someone she didn't know was really, seriously wierd. Plus, who wanted a broad girl clambering all the way there with a straight face, possible tipping the tree over, or breaking a branch?
Umi flicked her head sideways as she heard a few footsteps. She hooked her arm onto a branch, then pulled herself up to investigate. The Earthbender sat on the branch sort of like in a dog position, but with steady balance. She gazed intently as the box shaped thing flew into the air. Umi half-expected him to just give up and let it fall. But, he did not. She tilted her head sideways as he bended water. She frowned. Waterbenders need to stay in the poles, not here. They need to stay were they belonged. Umi didn't say that, she didn't even want to think it. Whoever this person was, looked pretty tough, so Umi kept her mouth shut. "Cool bending! How'd you do that?" She wanted to see what this perso could really do, and how to make that move hers, with a few tweaks she could try and change the stand and everything into Earthbending.
(Usually, I post more, but I do better with thread starting. Hope you can reply to this, even though it's a bit short. ^-^ )
